TABC Certification Online News: TABC to start taxing alcohol from cruise ships

There have been many newsworthy stories lately that impact or deal with online TABC certification, but one of the most talked-about is the TABC’s plan to start taxing alcohol coming into Texas off cruise ships.

That’s right … Remember the days when you could stock up on duty-free alcohol and bring it home? Well, you can still do that but it’s no longer totally duty-free. It will be duty-free when you buy it on the ship, but when you arrive back to Galveston you’ll be hit with a new tax.

How much tax? For each 750 ml bottle of liquor you buy, you’ll have to pay an additional $3.75 to the good folks over at the TABC. Yes, $3.75 is not very much money in the grand scheme of things, but it certainly lowers the incentive to buy alcohol and go through the hassle of bringing it home. This may be another reason to support your local liquor store!

TABC On The Fly is an official, state-approved provider of online and on-site TABC certification.
