Police seize bar in Wharton; Apparently owners thought TABC certification was brain surgery

Local police in Wharton, TX seized a bar on Sunday for selling alcohol without a license. And if they didn’t have a liquor license, they surely didn’t require a TABC certification course for their employees.

Throughout my years in the restaurant business, I’ve heard plenty of industry people (all of whom had taken a TABC certification course, mind you) claim that undercover TABC stings are few and far between, but that is simply not true. Nor should it be. It seems like word of a new sting hits the news every week, and this is undoubtedly a good thing. Stings are not meant to entrap honest, law-abiding seller/servers into doing something wrong. Rather, they’re meant to eliminate threats that are produced by those who don’t care about following the law and therefore put us all at risk as a result.
