TABC Certification Online News: Driver Busted for Illegally Selling Alcohol to Passengers
December 2, 2015
A driver in Austin has been busted for selling alcohol to his passengers without a permit. It all started when a passenger tipped off a local news station, who then reported the information to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC). TABC agents organized a sting, in which undercover agents posed as passengers and requested that particular driver, even telling the driver that he was recommended due to his practice of serving alcohol inside his vehicle.
Not only did the driver offer alcohol during the ride, but he agreed to sell alcohol to the undercover agents once the ride was over. The driver was cited for selling alcohol without a permit. It appears that he was not arrested.
Why a TABC Certification Is Important
Now, why is this a big deal? A TABC spokesman talked about the importance of the TABC’s permitting and TABC certification process. He stated, “We make sure that you’re aware of the signs of intoxication, what you should look out for whenever you are selling to someone trying to purchase alcohol, and obviously in the case where no one was ever given that training or they were just giving the alcohol to someone in the back seat, they may not be able to monitor that intoxication level.”
