Um, about your TABC certification … You’re doing it wrong

October 14, 2013

How do you know when you’re in desperate need of a refresher TABC certification course? When you sell beer to a 16-year-old girl at the State Fair.

The TABC conducted a sting operation at the State Fair on Friday night using an underage female decoy, something they apparently do every year. Out of 100+ vendors who sell alcohol, seven of them sold alcohol to the decoy. And while seven out of 100 may not seem like very many, it is the highest number seen by the TABC at the State Fair in recent years.

The punishment? The vendors will pay fines and have to sit through hearings, but perhaps the most stinging punishment is a two-day suspension from selling beer and wine at the fair. That amounts to a huge loss in revenue for the vendors, as food and beverage sales at the State Fair total about a million dollars each day.
