  • TABC certification is seller/server training approved by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. The course covers Texas laws and rules for responsible alcohol sales and service, including ways to help prevent sales to minors and intoxicated customers.

    After successfully completing an approved course, you receive a TABC seller/server certificate. Texas state law does not generally require seller/server certification, but many employers require employees who sell or serve alcohol to be TABC certified.

  • “TABC license” is sometimes used informally when people are searching for TABC seller/server certification, but they are not technically the same thing. Individual sellers and servers complete a TABC-approved course to receive a TABC seller/server certificate.

    TABC also issues licenses and permits to businesses that manufacture, distribute, sell, or serve alcoholic beverages. Those business licenses and permits are separate from an individual employee's TABC certification.

  • TABC stands for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, the state agency that regulates the alcoholic beverage industry in Texas.

    Your enrollment includes access to the online seller/server course, required assessments and final exam, and your certificate after successful completion. Pricing and fees are subject to change.

  • TABC seller/server certification is valid for two years from the date it is issued. Once it expires, the certificate cannot simply be extended or renewed.

    To remain TABC certified, you must complete a TABC-approved seller/server certification course again and receive a new certificate. You can complete your new course before your current certificate expires to help avoid a gap in certification.

  • No. TABC does not set a minimum age for taking a seller/server training course or becoming TABC certified.

    Age requirements can still apply to actually selling, serving, preparing, or handling alcoholic beverages depending on the type of TABC license or permit held by the business. For example, employees at many on-premises establishments must be at least 18, while package store employees generally must be at least 21.
